What’s Inside

The “I” in Inner More stands for Internal, and that’s because the growth process begins within.  How we are in life, how we show up in it and what we get from it originates from what’s within us. It pulls, pushes, prods, and prompts. Like the wind, we can’t see it but can see what it does. And so it is with us. Although it can’t be seen, what’s within tells us: Who I am, where I am, where I’m going and why.

If you want to see what yours does, it’s represented in everything that you’ve integrated into your life (you can tell a lot from what you’ve allowed yourself to access and to access you).  Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. I additionally like to say that in the people we’re closest to, we can see the decisions we make about what we acquiesce to and what we aspire to. In other words we clearly see our choices between acquiescence/maintenance and aspiration/growth.

Maintenance or Growth.

What’s acquiesced to will always slow, suspend or stop growth. Living constantly in what’s acquiesced to means constantly fighting the maintenance battle against decay and deterioration. It also means restricted opportunity for growth because resources that could be used to grow are diverted to maintenance (think of making a monthly car payment vs. putting that same amount into savings).

Settling/acquiescing signals the real opportunity or even the need for self-examination, to look within and ask self-challenging questions. It’s the chance we need to be better, to change - to grow.
